Your lease ends Friday and you just found out. A job offer came in and you start next week. Or the closing date got moved up and everything is happening at once. We get these calls all the time in Tucson. And here's the part most people don't expect: a last-minute move with us costs the same as one booked six weeks out. No rush fee, no weekend fee, no holiday fee.
Signs You Need Last-Minute Moving Help Now
Not sure your situation counts as a last-minute move? These are the signs we hear most:
- You have less than a week before you have to be out
- You've called other moving companies and nobody is available
- A roommate moved out, a relationship ended, or your living situation stopped feeling safe
- Your landlord told you the next tenant is moving in sooner than expected
- You took a new job and the start date isn't flexible
If any of those sound familiar, call us. We keep room in our schedule for same-day and next-day jobs whenever we can, because we know these moves don't wait.
Around Sam Hughes and Armory Park, a lot of last-minute calls come from renters, students, and young people. There's a bed, a couch, and a lot of boxes, but no plan, and the stress starts piling up. The most common mistake is thinking you can handle it with a rental truck and a couple of friends who haven't called back yet.
We also help a lot of military families near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base who are on a tight turnaround to a new post. Orders don't wait for anyone, and we've done enough of these moves to know how to make the timeline work.
When you call, a real person answers, not a phone tree. Someone with over 20 years of moving experience can usually tell you within a few minutes whether we can get a crew to you today or tomorrow. Estimates are free, there's no trip fee, and you'll know the price before the truck shows up.
Last-Minute Move, Small Move, or Labor-Only?
A lot of people don't realize these are three different things, and picking the wrong one can cost you time and money.
A last-minute move is a full-service local move on very short notice, a day or two out or even today. You need movers, a truck, and supplies all at once. Maybe your lease near the University of Arizona ended suddenly, or a job offer means you need to be out by Friday. It's the whole move, from your place to the new one, on a tighter timeline.
A small move is about size, not time. You might have plenty of time to plan it. The crew is smaller, the load is lighter, and the job takes a couple of hours. We do a lot of those, but they aren't last-minute moves.
Labor-only moving is for when you already have the truck. You've rented a U-Haul or have a PODS container, and you need people to load it, or unload it at the other end. We do the lifting, you do the driving. Honestly, a lot of people who call us thinking they need a last-minute move actually need this. The truck is already rented. They just need it loaded before tomorrow morning.
Not sure which one fits? That's normal. Tell us what's going on, and we'll ask a few questions and point you to the right option, whether it's a full crew and truck, a small move, or labor-only help. An apartment move with a light load and a flexible date may not need to be a rush job at all.
What Last-Minute Moving Costs
There's no rush fee. A last-minute move costs the same as one booked weeks ahead: $547 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers and a truck, then $127 an hour after that.
- 2 hours: $547
- 3 hours: $674
- 4 hours: $801
The same rate applies on weekends and holidays. Calling us on a Friday for a Sunday move doesn't change the number. There's no trip fee or call-out charge either, because the truck and travel are built into the 2-hour minimum or the flat rate.
The most common last-minute move we do is a one- or two-bedroom apartment or small home, packed and ready, moving across town. A fully boxed studio can be done within the minimum. Bigger places, stairs, or unpacked rooms push past it.
On short notice, most people take the hourly rate because it's fast to book. But if you can send photos or a short video of your rooms, we'll give you a flat rate instead, and that's the price you pay. Add items or services later and we update the quote so you see the new number before moving day. A flat rate only holds if we've seen what's moving, so without photos or a walkthrough, hourly is the fair way to do it.
What Changes the Price
Six things move the number: crew size, total time, distance, stairs and access, specialty items, and packing and supplies.
On a short-notice job, packing is the biggest swing. If the closets and kitchen are still full when we walk in, the crew is packing before they're loading, and that's labor plus materials. A studio that's fully boxed can finish in the minimum. The same studio with loose closets and a half-packed kitchen can add two or three hours. We'd rather tell you that on the phone than discover it in your kitchen.
Crew size is the next biggest lever. Two movers handle most jobs. A third or fourth raises both the 2-hour minimum and the hourly rate, but it also shortens the day. On a two-bedroom with an elevator, more hands often cost about the same in the end. If you mention a gun safe or piano on the first call, we'll bring a third mover and quote the higher rate before you book.
Access is the one people forget. A 900-square-foot apartment on the third floor with no elevator can take longer than a small house with a driveway. A long carry from where the truck can legally park adds up too. And in July and August, loading in 105-degree heat is slower than loading in March, so on hot days we push for the earliest arrival window we have.
What's Included, and What's Not
Included in the 2-hour minimum:
- The truck
- Travel costs, with no trip fee
- Two movers
- Moving blankets and stretch wrap on your furniture
Quoted separately:
- Packing labor and supplies, like boxes, tape, paper, TV boxes, and custom boxes for mirrors and artwork
- A third or fourth mover, which raises both the minimum and the hourly rate
- Specialty items like pianos, gun safes, hot tubs, fitness equipment, and antiques
- Unpacking boxes, available on request
We don't haul general junk like bags of trash, yard waste, or tree trimmings, and we don't move hazardous materials. We do haul away old furniture and appliances and handle donation drop-offs, which helps when you're clearing out fast.
How Same-Day Scheduling Works
You just found out you need to move. Maybe your landlord gave you 24 hours, a job offer came in today, or the closing got pushed up a week. When you call, a real person answers and starts helping right away, not a call center reading from a script. We get the basics: how many rooms, where you're going, and how much you're moving. Most of the time we can give you an hourly quote on that first call, and if you text photos, a flat rate soon after.
Then we move quickly:
- We check which crew is closest and available while you're still on the phone.
- We confirm your price, hourly or flat rate, before anything is booked.
- We send the crew and truck to your address, sometimes the same day, sometimes within hours.
The crew arrives with furniture pads, dollies, straps, and everything else needed to protect your things. We've run last-minute moves all over Tucson, from Midvale Park on a weekday evening to a house near Reid Park on a weekend morning, and out to Vail, Sahuarita, Green Valley, and Marana. We're locally and family owned, so there's no corporate red tape between you and an answer. One call gets it started.
Need to call after normal business hours? Go ahead. Last-minute moves don't happen at convenient times, and we offer after-hours availability when our schedule allows. If you're sitting there at 7 p.m. wondering if it's too late to call, it isn't.
Your 30-Minute Prep Checklist
You still don't have much time, but 30 minutes of prep before the crew arrives makes a real difference. Someone calls at noon, we're there at three, and the ones who spent half an hour getting ready finish faster with fewer headaches. A few things help most:
- Throw out anything you don't want to keep: old magazines, kitchen trash, the junk drawer.
- Clear out the pantry. If it's expired, toss it or give it away. Less to move means a faster move.
- Put small items in something you can carry out easily. Bathroom supplies go in a laundry basket, shoes in a bag.
- Out of boxes? Stuff towels and linens around pots, pans, and dishes.
- Clear a path from each room to the front door. Move shoes, litter boxes, and rugs that someone carrying a couch could trip over.
- Keep a small bag with your keys, phone charger, medications, and important papers, and keep it out of the truck.
- In an apartment complex near the University of Arizona, or anywhere with reserved parking, ask where our truck can park before we arrive. Reserve a visitor spot, let the leasing office know a truck is coming, or both.
Feeling overwhelmed? If nothing is packed and you have no boxes or tape, that's okay. Our crew can come ready to pack, which is part of how we handle short-notice moves. Packing is quoted separately as labor plus supplies. In summer, leave the AC running while we load. It helps everyone.
Also tell us about anything heavy or awkward, like a gun safe at the end of the hall, a piano against the far wall, or a hot tub on the back patio. Knowing early means we bring the right tools the first time.
Fast Doesn't Mean Careless
The question we hear more than any other: "If you're moving this fast, won't my stuff get thrown around?" Not with a trained crew. We don't skip steps for speed. Moving fast and moving carefully aren't opposites. It just takes experience.
Here's what our crew does on every rushed move:
- Wood pieces like dressers, tables, and headboards get stretch wrap before they go anywhere near the truck.
- Moving blankets go on anything with a finish, any glass, and anything with a sharp edge, and we bring plenty.
- Mattresses go in mattress bags. Tucson dust and summer heat are hard on an unprotected mattress.
- Fragile boxes load last and come off first, so nothing fragile ends up under a sofa.
We've seen people try a rush move on their own and toss plates and pans into one box with a few towels on top. That's how things break. Haven't packed the kitchen? Tell us. Our packing services can get fragile items packed quickly with the right materials, like packing paper, dish packs, and cell boxes for glassware.
How the truck is loaded matters just as much. We pack it tight, strap heavy pieces against the walls, and secure the load so nothing shifts when we turn onto Speedway or hit the bumps near Sam Hughes.
We're insured, and there's real accountability behind every item we touch. If something does get damaged, our first step is to repair it. If it can't be repaired, we reimburse at the industry-standard rate of 60 cents per pound per article, so a 100-pound item comes to $60. That's lower than many people assume, which is why we'd rather you know it now. Our goal is that nothing breaks in the first place.
Worried about one piece in particular, like a glass display case, an antique dresser, or a big flat-screen TV? Tell us when you call, and we'll give it extra attention, even on a same-day move.
Deposit, Financing & Discounts
A deposit, typically $150 for most local moves, holds your date, arrival window, and crew, and it's credited toward your final bill. A last-minute move often comes with a tight budget on top of a tight timeline, so financing is available if you need to spread the cost out. We also offer community discounts for military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, seniors, and students, which matters for the military families we move on short notice.
Our first number sometimes looks higher than a quote you got over the phone in 90 seconds. That's because we count the stairs, the specialty items, and the packing that still needs doing. A low number quoted sight unseen tends to grow once the truck shows up. At No Hassle Movers, ours holds. Here's how we keep our quotes honest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge extra for a last-minute move?
No. There's no rush fee, weekend fee, or holiday fee. A last-minute move is $547 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers and a truck, then $127 an hour, the same as a move booked weeks ahead. There's no trip fee either, since travel is built into the minimum.
How fast can you get a crew to my home in Tucson?
Often the same day or the next day. We keep room in our schedule for rush jobs whenever we can. When you call, a real person answers and asks a few quick questions, and within a few minutes we can usually tell you whether a crew and truck are open today or tomorrow.
What happens when the moving crew shows up at my door?
The crew walks through, checks the layout, and starts loading right away, with no long paperwork on moving day. If you did a quick 30-minute prep, like clearing a path to the door, things go even faster. Your price is confirmed before we start, hourly or flat rate, so there are no surprises once the truck is loaded.
Do you help military families moving quickly out of Davis-Monthan?
Yes. We handle tight-turnaround military moves near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base often. Orders can change fast, and a new report date rarely leaves room to plan. Our crews pack and load quickly without cutting corners on care, and military members and veterans qualify for our community discount. If your date got moved up, call us and we'll work out a same-day or next-day plan.
What's the difference between a last-minute move and a small move?
A last-minute move is about timing, and a small move is about size. A last-minute move happens with a day or two of notice, sometimes the same day, and needs a full crew, truck, and supplies right away. A small move might be planned weeks out but involves fewer items and a shorter job. Plenty of people near the University of Arizona think they need a rush crew when they really just have a light load and a flexible date.
Can you just load or unload my U-Haul or POD instead of doing the whole move?
Yes. If you already have a truck or container, our labor-only service is $347 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers, then $127 an hour. You handle the driving, and we handle the lifting, loading, and unloading. It works well if you rented a truck last minute and just need it loaded before your deadline.
What's not included in the $547 two-hour minimum?
The minimum covers the truck, travel, two movers, and moving blankets and stretch wrap. Packing labor and supplies, extra movers, specialty items like pianos or hot tubs, and unpacking are quoted separately, because they're real added work. On short-notice moves, packing is the item that changes the total most.
What happens if something gets damaged during my move?
Our first step is always to repair the item. If it can't be repaired, we reimburse at the industry-standard rate of 60 cents per pound per article, so a 100-pound item comes to $60. That's lower than many people expect, so it's worth knowing before moving day. We're insured, and our goal is that nothing gets damaged in the first place.
