You've already got the truck. Maybe you rented a U-Haul off Valencia Road, or a PODS container is sitting in your driveway in Sam Hughes, or you borrowed a friend's trailer. Then you look at the sectional at the top of the stairs and the 400-pound safe in the garage and realize you need experienced hands, not just a vehicle. That's what labor-only moving is for.
A full-service move means we bring the truck, the crew, and handle everything. A labor-only move means you provide the vehicle and we provide the crew — the same trained, insured movers who handle our full-service jobs, with the same blankets, dollies, and care. The only difference is you arranged the truck. We just make sure it gets loaded right.
Full-Service or Labor-Only — Which You Need
Labor-only is a good fit if you've already rented a Penske, Budget, or U-Haul truck; you have a PODS or moving container to load; you need help getting things in or out of a storage unit; or you just need heavy items repositioned inside your own home. If you haven't booked a vehicle yet — or would rather not deal with one — our local moving and full-service options save you a step. Either way, a real mover at No Hassle Movers will walk you through the choice. The price we quote is the price you pay, with no trip fee, whichever you pick.
What We Load and Unload — the Right Way
We load and unload U-Haul, Penske, and Budget rentals; PODS and other containers; storage units of any size; and trailers, cargo vans, and truck beds. If you have the vehicle, we handle the rest — see Loading and Unloading, PODS Loading and Unloading, U-Haul Loading and Unloading, and Storage Unit Moving for the specifics of each.
Loading is a skill, and it's where DIY moves go wrong. Heavy items belong low and toward the cab, mattresses against the back wall, nothing fragile packed under something heavier. We see poorly loaded rentals around town all the time — broken mirrors from a shift on the drive, cracked table legs, a dresser gouging a couch. Our crew knows how to stack and strap a load so everything arrives the way it left, backed by 8 years serving Southern Arizona and over 20 years of moving experience.
We do labor-only work across Tucson, Marana, Sahuarita, and Green Valley — from midtown apartments to storage facilities that get as hot as an oven by noon.
What Labor-Only Moving Costs
Labor-only starts at $347 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers, then $127 per hour after that. That covers two movers, a range of dollies, and the hand tools to take apart and reassemble basic furniture like beds and tables. A truck is not included — labor-only is muscle for a vehicle, container, or storage unit you already have.
So the math is simple: a 2-hour job is $347, 3 hours is $474, and 4 hours is $601. There's no trip fee and no travel charge — that's built into the 2-hour minimum. And there's no upcharge for last-minute, weekend, or holiday work: a Saturday in July costs the same as a Tuesday in February.
What Drives Your Price Up or Down
- Crew size — two movers cover most labor-only jobs; adding a third or fourth raises both the 2-hour minimum and the hourly rate. We'll tell you honestly if you need more, and if you don't.
- Total time — the first 2 hours are the minimum; after that it's $127/hour.
- Stairs and access — second-floor units, tight hallways, and long carries from the door all add time.
- Specialty items — a piano, gun safe, hot tub, or fitness machine isn't basic furniture and is quoted differently.
- Distance and supplies — travel is already in the minimum (no separate call-out fee); if we wrap or protect items, materials get added.
Item count matters more than size — five small nightstands can take longer than one big table. Having boxes packed, the path clear, and hardware kept with its item keeps the clock, and your cost, down.
What's Included — and What's Not
Included: two movers for the first two hours, a range of dollies for stairs and tight halls, hand tools for basic disassembly and reassembly, moving blankets and stretch wrap when pieces need protection, and a walkthrough before we start plus a final check before we leave.
Not included: a truck of any kind (you provide the U-Haul, PODS, trailer, or storage unit), a third or fourth mover, packing supplies like boxes or TV boxes, unpacking (available as an add-on), and hauling away old furniture or appliances (we do that as a separate service).
One thing we say plainly: there's a 2-hour minimum, so you pay for two hours even if the job runs shorter. If you've got a single item, we'll tell you on the phone that two movers for two hours is more than the task needs, rather than book it.
Heavy and Specialty Items
A 400-pound gun safe in the garage, a piano that hasn't moved since delivery, a treadmill wedged against the wall — these are the jobs friends can't help with, and the ones we handle all the time. We move gun safes, upright and baby grand pianos, hot tubs and large appliances, gym equipment, and antiques and artwork, using skill, balance, and the right equipment rather than brute strength. We've carried a dresser down two stories and out of a casita on a 110-degree day with no damage to the walls or floor. We're insured, and we're five-star rated on Google, with many customers pointing to the big pieces we moved without a scratch.
Before Your Crew Arrives
The more you prep, the faster the job goes and the less it costs — we see customers who spend thirty minutes prepping save an hour of labor time. If you can: break down bed frames, wall-mounted TVs, and shelving; clear the path from the door and keep hallways open; tape dresser drawers shut; and move your car so we can park close. Near the University of Arizona, call your building ahead about elevator reservations, loading docks, or restricted moving hours. Leave the heavy stuff to us — that's what you hired us for.

Scheduling Around the Summer Heat
Southern Arizona summers regularly push past 105 degrees from June through September, and on a labor-only move the start time matters. In the hot months we book early-morning slots, starting as early as 6 a.m. so your things are loaded before the worst of the day, take shorter and more frequent water breaks to keep the crew fast and safe, stage boxes near the door where it's cool, and keep the truck as close to the entrance as possible. We also run evening moves once the sun drops. Heat-sensitive items like candles, vinyl, and electronics get prioritized and sealed up first.
Deposit, Financing & Discounts
A deposit of typically $150 locks in your date, arrival window, and crew, and it comes off your final bill. Financing is available if paying all at once doesn't fit your timing, and we offer discounts for military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, seniors, and students — see Community Discounts. Flat rate or hourly is your choice: show us the job in person or by photos and video and we'll lock a flat rate; prefer not to, and we'll work hourly.
Our number is built on what the job really takes, so it holds instead of climbing on move day — here's how we price honestly. The price we quote is the price you pay; add items later and we update the quote first.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you charge extra for a weekend or holiday labor-only job?
No. It's $347 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers, then $127 per hour, any day of the week — including last-minute, weekend, and holiday jobs.
Does labor-only include a truck?
No. Labor-only is loading and unloading muscle for a truck, trailer, PODS, or storage unit you already have. If you need a truck too, tell us and we'll quote a full-service move instead.
Is there a minimum for labor-only?
Yes — a 2-hour minimum, which is $347 with two movers. You pay for two hours even if the job runs shorter; after that it's $127 per hour.
What should I do to get ready before your crew arrives?
Clear a path from the door to where the truck will park, move your car out of the driveway, break down bed frames and wall-mounted TVs, and tape dresser drawers shut. Thirty minutes of prep often saves an hour of labor time once we arrive.
What kinds of trucks or containers can you load?
U-Haul, Penske, and Budget rentals, PODS containers, trailers, cargo vans, and storage units of any size. You've handled the vehicle; our job is loading it so nothing shifts, cracks, or breaks in transit.
Do you offer financing or discounts on labor-only?
Yes — financing is available, and we offer discounts for military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, seniors, and students. Ask when you get your quote.
