A long-distance move should be handled by the same people from start to finish. We're movers, not brokers, so your belongings travel on our truck, with our crew, straight from your door in Southern Arizona to your new home — no warehouse stops, no transfers to a second carrier, and no sharing the trailer with other families' furniture. One company, one crew, one truck, the whole way.

What Counts as a Long-Distance Move

Any move over 100 miles is a long-distance move. That covers Tucson or Green Valley to Phoenix or Scottsdale (just over the line), out to California, Colorado, or Texas, across to the Midwest or East Coast for a job, or a snowbird trip back to the Pacific Northwest after winter. Over that 100-mile mark, how the move is handled matters more than the distance itself. Local moves are billed hourly; long-distance moves are a custom flat-rate quote built around your specific home and route — not an hourly meter, and not a per-pound chart.

Interstate moves also follow different rules than moves within Arizona. We're insured and manage the entire process ourselves, so you talk to the same team throughout — not a call center, and not someone who disappears after taking a deposit.

Our Southwest Moving Corridor

While we move families all over the country, we run one route network especially often — the Southwest corridor between Arizona, California, Nevada, and Texas. We've built dedicated experience moving along these routes, so if your move lines up with one of them, you get a crew that already knows the drive, the timing, and the quirks of each state line.

What a Long-Distance Move Costs — and Why

A long-distance move with us is a custom flat-rate quote, built after we look at your actual items in person or through photos and video. There's no per-mile chart and no trip fee. The price we quote is the price you pay, and if you add items or services later, we update the quote in writing before the truck rolls.

We don't publish a flat dollar figure for long distance, because no two of these jobs cost the same — a two-bedroom apartment to Denver and a four-bedroom house to Texas are different jobs. So we look first, then price it. If you'd rather not send photos or schedule a walkthrough, we can work at an hourly rate instead. That's a real option, not a penalty; the tradeoff is the total depends on how the day goes rather than being locked in ahead of time. Most people prefer the flat rate for long distance.

Worth being upfront about: our first number sometimes looks higher than a four-minute phone quote from another company, because we quoted the move we actually saw, with the right crew size and supplies. A lowball sight-unseen quote isn't a price, it's a booking — and it tends to climb on moving day. Ours holds, and most customers find they paid the same or less in the end. Here's how we price honestly.

What Drives Your Long-Distance Price Up or Down

Five things build every long-distance quote, and nothing else gets added later:

  • Distance — our crew drives your truck the whole way, so miles and drive days are real costs.
  • Home size — more rooms means more boxes, more furniture, and more loading time.
  • Crew size — bigger loads need more movers; a larger crew costs more per day but finishes faster, which usually works in your favor on a long haul.
  • Packing and supplies — if we pack, that's labor plus boxes, blankets, wrap, tape, and specialty boxes; pack yourself and that part of the number drops.
  • Specialty items — a piano, gun safe, hot tub, or fitness machine needs different equipment and more hands, and artwork and mirrors get custom boxes.

Travel is not a separate line item. Truck and travel costs are built into the rate, so there's no trip fee and no fuel surcharge tacked on at the end.

Full-Service or Self-Pack — Both Work

Most people fall into one of two groups, and we do both regularly.

Full-service means our crew arrives with all the materials, wraps your dishes, boxes your books, protects your furniture, loads the truck, and drives everything directly to your new home. It's the choice for families who are working right up until moving day and want one less thing to manage. Full-service also covers specialty pieces — piano moving, gun safe moving, and antique and art moving included.

Self-pack means you box your own belongings on your own schedule and we handle the heavy lifting and the transport. It gives you more control and lets you spread packing over a few weeks instead of one frantic day. A few tips if you self-pack: use small boxes for heavy items like books, wrap glass and ceramics individually, label every box on at least two sides, and fill empty space so nothing rattles. If wrapping fragile pieces isn't something you want to tackle, our packing services can cover just those. Either way, you get direct transport, no shared loads, and most long-distance moves finish within about seven days.

What's Included in Your Quote — and What's Not

Included: our own crew and truck the whole way; all crew travel (including flying to you for moves into Arizona); furniture wrapped in moving blankets and stretch wrap; TV boxes plus custom boxing for mirrors and artwork; a designated loader who builds and straps the load so nothing shifts; unload into the right rooms with furniture placed where you want it and beds and tables reassembled; a walkthrough on arrival and a final check before we leave; and direct transport — one move per truck, no warehouse stop, no transfer, no shared load.

Priced separately or not included: packing and packing materials (available as add-ons); unpacking boxes at the new home (an add-on many people skip, though it's popular on senior and estate moves); hazardous materials we can't move (paint, propane, gas cans, pool chemicals, ammunition); and general junk or yard waste. We do remove and haul away old furniture and appliances and handle donation drop-offs.

Preparing Your Home Before Moving Day

Most of the stress in a long-distance move happens in the weeks before the truck arrives, not on moving day. Start three to four weeks out. Walk each room and sort into keep, donate, and toss — less weight makes everything smoother, and you don't want us hauling a treadmill you haven't touched since 2019 across the country in July heat.

The week before, label every box on the top and one side with its room, pack a first-night bag (toiletries, chargers, medications, a change of clothes), defrost the freezer at least 24 hours ahead, clear walkways and driveways, and set aside anything riding in your own vehicle — documents, jewelry, family photos. If you're on a steep Catalina Foothills driveway or a narrow street, tell us when you book so we bring the right truck.

Loading, Transit, and Delivery Day

Loading day starts early, and the truck that pulls up is for your belongings only — not half-full of someone else's boxes. We wrap furniture on site, secure everything with blankets and straps, and a designated loader builds the load so nothing shifts over hundreds or thousands of miles.

In transit, your items go directly from your home to your new address — no storage facility, no transfer between trucks, no sharing space. Direct transport means fewer hands on your things and much less risk. Most long-distance moves finish within about seven days, and we give you an arrival window you can genuinely count on.

On delivery day, the crew calls ahead, walks through with you to confirm where each item goes, places furniture in the right rooms, reassembles what we took apart, and checks everything before leaving. One company is accountable from your door in Southern Arizona to your new door — no finger-pointing between a broker and a carrier. Direction matters for how we start: for a move into Arizona, our crew travels to your current home to pack and load; for a move out, we load here and drive to your new home.

Moving to Arizona from Out of State

Not everyone we help is leaving Tucson. A lot of our long-distance work is the other direction: people moving to Arizona from somewhere else in the country. Snowbirds and retirees settling in for good, families relocating for a fresh start, remote workers trading a cold northern winter for the desert. We bring people here from California, the Pacific Northwest, the upper Midwest, the East Coast, and everywhere in between.

Here's what makes this simple for you: we handle both ends of the move ourselves. You get one company managing the whole thing, from the day your belongings get loaded in your old state to the day our crew sets them down in your new Arizona home. Your things travel direct, on one truck, with no warehouse stops and no handing your shipment off to a stranger. It's the same direct transport and the same accountability you'd get on any of our moves, just pointed toward Arizona instead of away from it.

Whether you're headed for Tucson, Green Valley, or one of the surrounding communities, we can bring you home. Give us a call and we'll walk through exactly how your move into Arizona would work.

Communities We Move In and Out of Every Season

A good share of our long-distance work follows the calendar. Each fall, snowbirds and retirees head south to settle into Southern Arizona, and each spring many head back north — and we handle both directions. Year after year we move families in and out of Green Valley, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke, Sun City Oro Valley, and Oro Valley, often for the same customers who call us again the next season. Because No Hassle Movers runs the whole move ourselves, the company that loaded you in the spring is the same one you call in the fall. If you split your year between Arizona and another state, book early for the October and April peaks — those weeks fill up fast.

Protecting Specialty and Fragile Items

What worries people usually isn't the couch — it's the piano from a grandmother, the antique mirror from Fourth Avenue, the 800-pound gun safe in a narrow hallway. We handle these all the time, and each gets its own plan: wrapped in pads, secured to the truck wall, and checked so nothing moves. Because we use direct transport with no warehouse stops or transfers, your fragile items are loaded once and unloaded once — and most damage in the industry happens during handling, not while the truck is on the road. One load, one unload. If you're looking at something you're unsure can survive the trip, call us and we'll walk through exactly how we'd move it.

Deposit, Financing & Damage Coverage

A deposit holds your date, arrival window, and crew, and it's credited toward your final bill. Long-distance deposits run larger than the roughly $150 we take on most local moves, because we commit a truck and crew to your move alone. Financing is available if paying all at once doesn't fit your timing — worth asking about early, since a long-distance total is usually bigger than a local one. We also offer discounts for military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, seniors, and students — see Community Discounts.

On damage coverage, we'd rather be plain than bury it in fine print. If something is damaged, we repair it first. If it can't be repaired, we reimburse at the industry-standard 60 cents per pound per article — a 100-pound dresser comes to $60. That's weight-based, not value-based, and it's the standard across the industry, not a number we made up. If you're shipping high-value pieces, tell us early so we can plan the protection and boxing around them. The better answer is not filing a claim at all, which is why we spend the time up front to load and protect it right.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a long-distance move from Tucson or Green Valley?

Any move over 100 miles. Tucson or Green Valley to Phoenix, Denver, Texas, or the East Coast all qualify, even Phoenix just over the line. Long-distance moves are a custom flat-rate quote built around your home and route, not an hourly rate and not a per-pound chart. We run these routes constantly, along with snowbird trips to the Pacific Northwest each spring.

How long does a long-distance move usually take?

Most finish within about seven days. We use direct transport, so your belongings stay on one truck with one crew the whole way, with no warehouse stops or transfers. That's different from companies that combine loads, where a "7-day delivery" can quietly turn into weeks of waiting.

Is there a deposit, and do you offer financing?

Yes to both. A deposit holds your date, arrival window, and crew and is credited to your final bill; long-distance deposits run larger than the roughly $150 on a local move because we dedicate a truck and crew to you. Financing is available if paying all at once doesn't fit your timing — ask when you get your quote.

Why do long-distance quotes vary so much between companies?

Because they're built from different information. Ours comes from seeing your actual items, so it reflects the real crew, truck space, and supplies your move needs. A quote given over the phone without seeing your items has to guess, and guesses change on moving day.

Can I skip the photo review or walkthrough and just get a quick estimate?

Yes. If you'd rather not send photos or schedule a walkthrough, we can work at an hourly rate instead. The tradeoff is the total isn't locked ahead of time. For a long-distance move, most people prefer the flat rate.

Will my belongings be combined with other people's on the truck?

No. Your items travel on our truck, stay on our truck, and go straight to your new home. We're movers, not brokers — no shared loads, no warehouse, no transfer to another company's trailer.

Should I pack myself or let the crew handle everything?

It depends on your time. With a couple of weeks, self-pack works well and gives you control over how things are boxed. Short on time, full-service takes packing off your plate entirely. We're happy to walk through which fits your situation.
