You reserved the truck and figured you'd handle the rest. Now you're standing in a midtown Tucson garage next to a 600-pound gun safe, a sectional that barely fit through the door when it came in, and a wall of boxes that reaches the ceiling. Sound familiar? We get this call all the time. You've got the truck, trailer, container, or storage unit. We bring the crew that loads or unloads it right.
Do You Need Loading and Unloading Help?
These are the most common reasons people call us:
- Big items like appliances, gym equipment, or a piano that are too heavy for two people to lift safely
- A tight timeline, with the rental truck due back in hours, not days
- Heat that makes carrying furniture a real health risk
- A container or rental truck that was loaded wrong and needs reloading before it travels
- Stairs, long halls, or tight corners between the furniture and the truck
A lot of customers have already tried it themselves and stopped halfway, usually when the dresser wouldn't make the turn in a second-floor stairwell near Speedway. That isn't a failure. It's just what moving is like.
What people don't think about is that bad loading causes damage on the road: crushed boxes, cracked TVs, snapped furniture legs. In our experience, most of that damage comes most of that damage comes from poor loading, not bad driving. And you don't have to be moving far to need it done right. Even a move to a storage facility across town goes easier when a trained crew handles the heavy lifting. Our crews handle load days all over Tucson, from the Catalina Foothills to Valencia, down through Sahuarita and Green Valley, and out to Marana.
Loading Help or Full-Service Movers?
With labor-only loading and unloading, you handle the rental truck or container and the driving, and you control the schedule. We bring the manpower, the experience, and the equipment. It saves a lot of people real money. A full-service move is different: we bring the truck, the packing materials, and the crew, and handle everything door to door, usually one crew, one truck, one day.
Loading and unloading is usually the better fit when you've already rented the truck, trailer, or portable container; you're moving into or out of a storage unit; you want to drive yourself but need help with the heavy part; or you're watching your budget. Full-service makes more sense when you don't want to rent or drive a truck, you want someone to pack for you, or your move involves long distance or multiple stops.
A typical call: someone already has a container in the driveway and just needs two or three movers for a few hours. On that first call, a real mover, not an automated system, can usually give you an hourly rate right away. If you'd like a locked flat rate instead, we'll look at photos or video first so the number holds. Either way, there's no trip fee.
What Loading and Unloading Costs
The job we get asked about most, loading or unloading a rental truck, trailer, or container, runs $347 for the first 2 hours with 2 movers, then $127 per hour after that. You provide the U-Haul, the PODS, the trailer, or the storage unit. We bring two movers, dollies sized for boxes, appliances, and furniture, and hand tools to take apart and reassemble basic furniture like beds and tables. The truck isn't included, because that's the whole point of this service.
There's no trip fee and no call-out charge. Travel is already built into the 2-hour minimum or the flat rate. Booking last-minute, on a weekend, or on a holiday doesn't cost more. A Saturday in July runs the same as a Tuesday in February.
You choose how we bill. Hourly works well, especially on smaller loads. Or send us photos or video, or have us stop by, and we'll lock a flat rate. The price we quote is the price you pay, and if you add items later, we update the quote before moving day.
What Drives Your Price: It's the Walk, Not the Stuff
Six things move the price: crew size, total time, distance, stairs and access, specialty items, and packing supplies. Crew size is the biggest lever. Two movers handle most jobs, and a third or fourth raises both the 2-hour minimum and the hourly rate, but more hands often finish faster. A 26-foot truck packed to the roof can take two movers most of the day. Four can cut that down hard. We'll tell you straight if two is enough, even when a bigger crew would bill more.
Access is the factor people underestimate most. It's not the stuff. It's the walk to the stuff:
- How many flights of stairs
- How far the truck or container can park from the door
- Elevator size, and whether it has to be reserved
- Tight hallways, narrow doorways, and sharp turns at landings
- Gravel, curbs, or a long driveway between the truck and the house
- Gate codes or HOA rules about where a truck can sit
A second-floor apartment with the truck parked 200 feet away can take longer than a bigger house with a driveway right at the door. Specialty items like a piano, a gun safe, a hot tub, or a treadmill need different equipment, so mention them on the first call. Packing is separate from the labor rate. If boxes are sealed, labeled, and stacked in one room, the load moves fast. And Arizona heat is real: a July load in 105 degrees needs water and shade breaks, and we plan for that instead of pretending it won't happen.
What's Included, and What's Not
Included in the base rate:
- 2 movers for the first 2 hours
- Dollies for boxes, appliances, and furniture
- Hand tools for basic disassembly and reassembly of beds and tables
- A designated loader who builds the load for proper weight distribution
- Ratchet straps so nothing shifts in transit
- Moving blankets and stretch wrap on your furniture
- A walkthrough before we start and a final check before we leave
Not included, but available: a third or fourth mover; packing supplies like boxes, TV boxes, and custom boxing for mirrors and artwork; unpacking at the new place; specialty items like a piano, gun safe, or hot tub; and haul-away of old furniture and appliances, or a donation drop-off. We don't move hazardous materials, and we don't haul general junk like bags of trash or yard waste. If that's what you need, a junk removal company is the better call, and we'll tell you so on the phone.
How We Load a U-Haul, PODS, or Storage Unit
Every vehicle and container works a little differently. A PODS unit sits at ground level in the driveway, a U-Haul has a higher deck and a ramp, and a storage unit has a roll-up door, no air conditioning, and often a tight entrance. We know the difference because we've worked all of them, sometimes in the same afternoon. Here's how a load day runs:
- We walk through your home and the truck or container to plan the best way to load it.
- Heavy items go in first: dressers, appliances, and the couch against the wall of the truck or container.
- We use vertical space, stacking boxes and lighter items carefully so they don't move in transit.
- We blanket and strap anything that could scratch, dent, or slide.
- We do a final walkthrough before closing the door to check that everything is secure and the weight is balanced.
Space is a puzzle. Sometimes a household that looks like it'll fill a 16-foot truck doesn't fit, and sometimes a load someone expects to fit in a small container needs more room. With over 20 years of moving experience, our crews have worked out a lot of those puzzles, and if you're unsure whether everything will fit, call us and we'll help you plan before load day. We're also insured. Hiring random labor through an app is a gamble. With us, you get actual movers who handle your things like they were moving into their own home.
Getting Your Home Ready for Load Day
A little prep the day before keeps the job on schedule and on budget. What slows a load down is half-packed boxes, drawers still full of clothes, and furniture blocked in by clutter. Before we arrive:
- Take apart what comes apart: bed frames, shelving, dining tables with removable legs. If you'd rather not, we handle furniture assembly too.
- Empty dresser and nightstand drawers. Heavy furniture full of clothes is harder to carry, and things fall out.
- Clear a path from every room to the front door. Shoes, mats, and pet bowls are trip hazards when someone's carrying a couch.
- Label boxes by room. A room name in marker is plenty.
- Put keys, medications, valuables, and important papers in your car before we start.
If you live in an apartment complex near the university or up in the Catalina Foothills, let your property manager know a crew is coming so we can use the loading zone and park close. And in July, a cooler of cold water by the entrance helps everyone move faster and safer. Not sure you're ready? Send us a few photos and we'll tell you what to expect.
The Final Walkthrough
This is where a lot of crews rush. Ours doesn't. Before we close the truck doors or leave your storage unit, we walk through with you and confirm nothing is left behind. If you told us twelve boxes and a sectional, we count twelve boxes and check that the sectional is secured. We check:
- Every room, closet, and corner of the garage
- That fragile items are padded and kept apart from heavy pieces
- That furniture is placed where you asked at the destination
- That appliances are level and positioned the way you want them
- That the load is balanced for a safe drive
Sometimes the walkthrough turns up a box behind a closet door or a lamp left on a vanity. Better to find it now. And when we unload, we don't just leave everything on the living room floor. We put each piece where you want it. After hiring a crew, you shouldn't still be carrying a dresser down the hall yourself. We don't leave until you've approved everything, because cutting corners at the end of a hot day is exactly how damage happens.
Deposit, Financing & Discounts
A deposit, typically $150 for most local and specialty-item jobs, holds your date, arrival window, and crew, and it comes off your final bill. Financing is available if the cost lands at a bad time in your month. Moving stacks up fast, with truck rental, deposits on the new place, and supplies all hitting the same week. We also offer discounts for military, veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, seniors, and students through our community discounts program.
A ninety-second phone guess tends to get corrected on moving day, usually upward. At No Hassle Movers, we look first and quote what the job takes, so our number holds. Here's why we price it this way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I book loading help or a full-service move?
If a rental truck, trailer, or container is already in your driveway, or you're moving into or out of a storage unit, loading and unloading help is usually the right fit. If you'd rather skip renting a truck and packing boxes, full-service is the better choice. A quick call helps us figure out which saves you more.
Is the truck included in your price?
No. You provide the U-Haul, PODS container, trailer, or storage unit. We bring 2 movers, dollies, and hand tools for basic furniture. That's what the $347 first-2-hour rate covers, with $127 an hour after that.
How long does loading and unloading usually take?
Most one- and two-bedroom jobs take two to four hours with a small crew, depending on stairs, the distance to the truck, and how much prep is done. A container reload from a midtown garage full of boxes often goes faster than a full apartment near Speedway with a narrow stairwell. We'll give you a time estimate on the first call.
Why did my quote come in higher than a price I got over the phone?
A phone quote without seeing the job is usually a guess, and guesses tend to get corrected on moving day. We prefer to see your items in person or through photos and video first, so crew size, stairs, access, and specialty items are already accounted for. Once we've seen it, the flat-rate price holds.
Can you reload my U-Haul or PODS container if it wasn't packed right?
Yes, and it's one of the most common calls we get. Most transport damage comes from poor loading, not bad driving, so a reload protects your TV, furniture legs, and boxes before you hit the road. We repack heavy items low and secure, fill gaps so nothing shifts, and balance the weight.
What if my furniture doesn't fit through the door or stairwell?
It happens often, especially in second-floor apartments with tight stairwells. We measure doorways and angles before attempting a big piece, and we know how to tilt, rotate, or partly disassemble furniture to get it through. If a piece truly won't fit, we talk through options with you instead of forcing it and risking your walls or the furniture.
Does a last-minute or weekend job cost more?
No. We charge the same rate any day, including last-minute, weekend, and holiday jobs. A Saturday in July costs the same as a Tuesday in February.
