The hard part of moving a hot tub usually isn't the tub. It's the yard: the narrow side gate, the gravel that swallows a dolly, the steps down from the patio. We move hot tubs and spas across Tucson, from pickups and deliveries to backyard-to-backyard moves and haul-aways. Taking a tub from one home to another with our truck is typically $547 to $797, and we lock in a flat rate after we've seen the tub and the route out.
Red Flags That Your Hot Tub Needs Professional Movers
You've been staring at the hot tub out back for a week, wondering how it's ever getting out of the yard. Maybe you're selling the house. Maybe you're moving closer to the Catalina Foothills. Either way, a tub doesn't leave a backyard without a plan.
A lot of people call after they've already tried to work it out themselves. Here are the signs it's a job for a crew, not a few friends and a favor:
- The tub weighs more than 500 pounds. Most do, and some top 900 pounds empty.
- There's no straight shot out, because of a fence, a gate, a narrow side yard, or an elevated deck.
- It has to go up or down steps.
- It's going more than a few feet, like across town or to a new home.
- The ground is uneven, muddy after a monsoon storm, or covered in rock and gravel.
A hot tub isn't furniture. It's hard to grip, the weight isn't balanced, and one bad step on loose dirt can put someone in urgent care. We often get the call after the first attempt, when the tub hasn't moved and now there's a cracked patio or a broken gate to deal with, too.
If any of those sound familiar, call a crew that has the right equipment and knows how to lift a tub without damaging it or your yard. We're insured, we have over 20 years of moving experience, and we give you a flat rate before the work starts. Not sure your job needs us? Call. A real person with moving experience answers the phone.
What Hot Tub Moving Costs in Tucson
Most hot tub jobs land somewhere between $347 and $797. Which end depends on what kind of job it is:
- Backyard to a new backyard, with our truck: $547 to $797 for most tubs. This is the job we're asked about most.
- Same property, no truck: $347 to $647, say from a side yard to a new pad out back. The number of movers decides where it falls.
- Along with a full household move: the tub is rolled into your move quote and costs less than doing it on its own, usually adding $247 to $647, since the crew and truck are already on site.
Have your own truck or trailer? Then there's no truck charge. Our labor-only crews start at $347 for the first 2 hours, and the price climbs if a bigger tub or a harder yard means more movers.
What Moves the Price Up or Down
- The size and weight of the tub, since a small two-seater and a big eight-seat shell are different jobs
- How many movers it takes, which is the biggest swing inside the range
- Steps down into a sunken patio or up to a raised deck, which mean careful lowering instead of rolling
- Gate and doorway widths compared to the tub
- The route to the truck, like soft gravel, a slope, or a narrow side yard
- Whether the tub has to go over a fence or a wall
The last one makes the biggest difference. Lifting a tub over a block wall is a very different job from rolling it down a driveway. Gravel side yards catch people off guard, too. The dolly sinks, and a two-person job suddenly needs four.
That's why a firm number waits until we've seen the tub. Photos or a short video of the tub, the gate, the route, and where it's going is usually enough, and we're happy to come by in person. Either is free. After that, the flat rate is guaranteed. Add something later, and we'll give you the new total before we start. If you'd rather not send photos or have us out, we can bill by the hour instead.
A blind quote from someone else can look cheaper than ours, because ours counts the stairs and the gate. Customers usually come out the same or ahead with us, since our number doesn't change on moving day.
What's Included, and What Isn't
The price includes:
- The crew size the job needs, which for a hot tub is usually more than two people
- Dollies, straps, ratchet straps, and the lifting gear to get the tub up, over, or through whatever's in the way
- Moving blankets and wrap to protect the shell and the cabinet
- Truck and travel time, folded into the flat rate or the 2-hour minimum
- A walkthrough before we start and a final check before we leave
There's no fee for showing up and no charge for the drive. Saturdays, holidays, and short-notice bookings are priced like any other day.
Here's what we don't do. We're movers, not plumbers or electricians:
- Draining and disconnecting. The water has to be out and the power disconnected before we arrive. A full spa can weigh well over a ton, so this step can't be skipped. Not sure who to call? Ask us, and we'll tell you what to line up.
- Reconnecting. We'll set the tub exactly where you want it, but the hookup at the new home is your electrician's job.
- Spa chemicals and other hazardous materials. Those need to travel with you.
- General junk like yard waste or bags of trash. We do haul away old furniture and appliances if you ask.
If something gets damaged, we repair it first. If it can't be repaired, we pay the industry-standard 60 cents per pound per article, which is $60 on a 100-pound item. That's worth knowing before you book with anyone.
More Than Just Moving: Pickup, Delivery, and Haul-Away
Not every hot tub job is a full move. A lot of our work falls into a few other categories:
Buying a used hot tub. Found a deal on Facebook Marketplace, or a friend is giving you theirs? We'll pick it up from the seller, bring it to your place, and set it on your pad, ready for your electrician to make the final connections.
Selling or giving yours away. We can pick the tub up at your place and deliver it to the new owner for you, so you don't have to coordinate the heavy lifting.
Just want it gone. A hot tub seemed like a great idea, but between the upkeep and the space, plenty of people decide it isn't worth it, or it's gotten old and started leaking. We'll haul it away and dispose of it properly, so you get your yard back without cutting it apart yourself. Haul-aways are priced case by case, depending on what it takes.
Hot tub and spa dealers. If you sell spas and don't run your own delivery, we can pick tubs up at your showroom or warehouse and deliver them to your customer's home.
When to Move a Hot Tub
Timing makes a big difference with a hot tub move in Tucson. We move tubs year-round, but some times are much better than others.
Heat comes first. A tub that's been sitting in the Arizona sun all day can have a surface temperature above 150, which is hard on the crew and the shell. In summer, we start most hot tub moves first thing in the morning, around 7 a.m. If your dates are flexible, a spring or fall morning is ideal.
What to Avoid Scheduling
A little flexibility can save a lot of trouble. These are worth working around:
- The day or two after a monsoon storm, while the yard is still muddy and the gate area is slick. The National Weather Service in Tucson keeps monsoon safety tips worth a look before you pick a date.
- Mid-afternoon in June, July, or August, when the sun and pavement are hot enough to soften the shell.
- The middle of a remodel, when lumber, building materials, or a dumpster block the route.
- The last weekend of the month, when streets in busy neighborhoods like Rita Ranch and Civano fill up with other moving trucks.
Calling a week or two ahead gets you the best choice of time slots. Same-day moves are often possible, and after-hours times can sometimes work, depending on availability. Our last-minute moves cost the same as any other day. Even a day or two of notice helps us line up the right crew and equipment for your tub and yard.
How to Prepare Your Spa for the Move
Once your move is booked, a little prep on your end makes moving day faster and safer. We do the lifting. You handle a few things before we arrive.
What to Do Before We Arrive
- Drain the tub. Most hold 300 to 500 gallons, and at about eight pounds a gallon, that water adds up fast. Draining can take a couple of hours with a submersible pump, longer with a slow drain, so start the day before.
- Disconnect the power. Flip the breaker at the panel. If the tub is hardwired, schedule an electrician to disconnect it before move day. We can't move a tub that's still wired in, and waiting on an electrician can hold up the whole morning.
- Remove the cover and extras. Take off the spa cover, steps, and handrail, plus any loose jets, pillows, or headrests. Bag and label the small parts so nothing goes missing.
- Clean and dry the shell. A quick wipe-down and dry helps prevent moisture and mold in transit. Desert air dries things out fast, but there's still plenty of moisture inside a spa cabinet.
- Clear the route. Move patio furniture, planters, and anything else between the tub and where the truck will park. Measure every gate on the way, because we need those numbers before moving day.
Gate width matters more than most people think. We've arrived at homes where the backyard gate was a few inches too narrow, and the plan changed to a side gate or extra equipment to lift the tub over a wall. That's exactly what the estimate is for.
Take a look at the base, too. A tub that's sat on a concrete pad in the sun for years can stick to the pad or crack underneath. Tell us what you see, and we'll bring the right equipment.
That's it: drain it, disconnect it, and clear the way. Questions about getting your tub ready? Call, and you'll talk to someone who knows exactly what your move needs. Estimates are free.
